Taking care of your hair as a swimmer presents many different challenges because you are exposing your hair to a variety of different chemicals in the water, but you are also exposing your hair to the heat of the sun. Simply being aware of the damage that swimming can cause to your hair is a step in the right direction because many people just ignore the risks.

One problem that people face when swimming in chlorinated pools is discoloration. If you swim too often the copper in the chlorine is going to cause your hair to turn green, how noticeable the green is will depend on the color of your hair. One way to get rid of green hair is to buy shampoos and conditioners that are formulated to treat swimmers hair. Or you can use lemon juice or vinegar after swimming. With the lemon juice and vinegar, simply massage it into your hair and rinse out immediately after getting out of the pool.

Something that you can do to help prevent your hair from drying out from all of the chemicals in the pool is to apply conditioner to hair your hair before going into the pool. To provide the best protection you will want to put a plastic bag and swim cap over your conditioned hair.

A swim cap is going to provide you with the best possible protection for your hair in a pool with chlorine, but not everybody likes to wear them, especially younger women. If you don’t want to wear a swim cap the only thing that you can do to help prevent your hair from drying out is to not get your hair wet or get it wet as little as possible. You will also need to do a deep conditioning on your hair once a week to help moisturize your dry hair.
