There is a variety of hair cut techniques for African American hair is being observed now-a-days. Some of them are formulated by replicating celebrity hair styles whereas others have been become a favorite by evolution. Some of the most famous hair cut techniques for African American hair are summarized below:

  • 360 Waves: popular today with its natural pattern of tight waves and ridges that bring about the 360 degree pattern
  • Bald: Without any sort of hair on the scalp. This style is quite observable.
  • Bangs:To hang down over the forehead in this technique hair is scissored in such manner.
  • Bantu Knots/Braids: A mixture of knots and twisted plates
  • Bowl Cut:  Carried out by placing a bowl on the head and cut anything that protrudes from under the bowl.
  • Business man’s cut: A cut relatively short but long enough to be either brushed back from the forehead or parted.
  • Butch or Crew cut:hair is cut on even on around ¼ inches long. Outside US it is generally known as crew cut whereas inside US it is generally known as Butch Cut.
  • Spikes: A hair that can be either long or short is cut in such manner that looks like a series of spikes.
  • Taper Cut:  in this cut the hair gets gradually shorter towards reaching the nape of the head.
  • Wedge Cut:  Something like bowl cut but hair below the line is tapered.
  • Dreadlocks:  this style is basically like having matted or knotted strands.
  • Flattop:hair is cut in such manner that top of hair looks like a flat surface.
  • Brush Cut:  basically a longer version of a modern crew cut hair is cut in such manner that it stands up like brush bristles.
  • Ivy League:hair is basically short and tapered at the sides.
  • Pageboy: Hair is cut in such manner that all the hairs look like of same length.
